As the largest country in South America, Brazil covers the majority of the continent's northeastern region and borders all of its countries except Chile and Ecuador.

From the Amazon rainforests of the north to the tropical beaches of its coast, to the Pantanal wetlands and vibrant capitals of the southeast, Brazil's landscapes and cities are as diverse and varied as its culture.

Home to numerous indigenous tribes for thousands of years and colonized by Portugal in the 16th century, Brazilian culture is a blend of Portuguese, Native American, European and African influences, all clearly displayed in the country's cuisine, traditions, music, dance and festivals.

Brazil is made up of many attractive cities. The capital Brasilia is a modern sight with unique infrastructure and government buildings, while Ouro Petro is one of the country's most well-preserved colonial cities.

World-famous Rio de Janeiro is known for its Carnival, vibrant nightlife and the massive statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Sao Paulo is the country's largest and wealthiest cosmopolitan city. Another large city, Salvador offers plenty to see and do with a historic center and beautiful beaches.

Recife is often called the Venice of Brazil for its scenic bridges and waterways. Manaus is a popular gateway to experience the Amazon rainforest.
