The rocky island of Nissi is also located close to the shore, connected to the mainland by a sandbar.
Nissi Beach is one of the most popular sandy beaches on the island, and during the summer months the beach is crowded with large numbers of visitors.
So, during peak tourist season, this is not the place to spend a quiet day.

Lara Beach in Cyprus
This beach is a nature reserve located on the wild Akamas Peninsula in the far west of the island, 27 kilometres north of Paphos.
Lara Beach is also a natural habitat. For Mediterranean green turtles and loggerhead turtles.
Many people usually visit Lara Beach as part of an organised group tour from Paphos, or by walking or cycling.

A visit to this beach will give you the chance to see the most famous seascape on the island.
Just offshore are the jagged rock formations of Petra tou Romiou (known in English as Aphrodite's Rock).
According to local legend, this is where the Greek goddess Aphrodite first emerged from the sea.
The beach itself is a small horseshoe-shaped cove of sand, which is a good place for swimming.
Its location, 26 kilometres southeast of Paphos and 45 kilometres west of Limassol, makes it an excellent stop on the scenic coastal route between the cities.

Konnos Beach is located on the edge of Cape Greco National Park just five kilometres south of the resort of Protaras.
The soft white sands here make Konnos a distinctive and highly sought-after destination.

Secondly, the sea off Pissouri Bay drops to a decent depth near the shoreline, so it is great for swimmers; but parents should be very careful if they come to the beach with young children.

If you want to combine a visit to the island's finest ancient site with a place to swim, head to Salamis, nine kilometres from Famagusta in North Cyprus.
Here you will see the great Hellenistic ruins of the ancient city of Salamis, with its temples, theatre and ornate gymnasium ruins, for several kilometres along the coast.
But don't forget that you will need to bring your passport to cross from the Republic of Cyprus to Northern Cyprus.

Facing Protaras town, and lined with hotels, cafes and restaurants, this beach is one of the busiest stretches of sand on the island's east coast.
With soft golden sand, sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, lifeguards, and crystal clear turquoise waters that are perfect for snorkelling, this is a great place with all the facilities on hand.
Most importantly, people with special needs, such as those using wheelchairs, can access the beach with specially built facilities and paths leading to the sand.
