Modern and ancient pyramids come in many shapes and sizes.

To be more specific pyramid One can compare their heights for example.

However, many large pyramids come with a very large base but are not very tall.

Therefore, the best measure of volume is probably in terms of the volume of the base of the pyramid and its height.

With this formula, it will not be too difficult to find the largest of these structures in the world.

But unfortunately it is not that easy.

Because many of them do not have smooth sides or walls, but rather have stepped sides (in the form of a staircase).

The largest pyramids in the world

The largest pyramids - the Pyramid of the Sun (1.2 million cubic meters)

The Pyramid of the Sun is the largest building in Teotihuacan and one of the largest pyramids in Mesoamerica.

The name comes from the Aztecs, who visited the city of Teotihuacan centuries after it had been abandoned.

The pyramid was built in two stages.

The first construction phase, around 100 AD, brought the pyramid to roughly the size it is today.

While the second round of construction resulted in the completion of its size of 225 meters and 75 meters wide.

Largest Pyramid – Luxor Hotel (1,228 million cubic meters)

One of the new mega-resorts that appeared on the Las Vegas Strip in the 1990s, it was designed in the shape of a giant pyramid.

The Luxor Hotel opened in 1993 after only eighteen months of construction.

It contains 2,526 guest rooms, a showroom, restaurants and entertainment venues on the second floor.

Its base is 183 metres long and its height is 110 metres.

It is much smaller than its famous model in Egypt (the Great Pyramid of Giza).

Bent Pyramid (237 1 million cubic meters)

The Bent Pyramid at Dahshur was the second pyramid built by Pharaoh Sneferu.

This Egyptian pyramid rises out of the desert at a 55-degree angle and then suddenly changes to a more gradual 43-degree angle.

One theory is that because the original angle was so steep, the weight to be added above the interior rooms and corridors became too great.

Which forced the builders to build in another corner.

The base of the pyramid is 188.6 metres long and its height is 101.1 metres.

Red Pyramid (1.69 million cubic meters)

The Red Pyramid built by Pharaoh Sneferu is the world's first successful attempt to build a true pyramid.

The pyramid measures 220 x 220 metres and is 104 metres high.

It was the largest pyramid in Egypt until the construction of the Pyramids of Giza.

What makes the Red Pyramid really special today is the lack of crowds.

Great Pyramid of Cholula (1.8 million cubic metres)

The Great Pyramid of Cholula appears to be Mexico It is a natural hill topped by a Catholic church.

It was built by the Spanish in 1594 on the site of a former temple.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, this temple is actually the largest pyramid ever built anywhere in the world.

Its total volume is estimated at more than 4.45 million cubic metres.

This is based on a size of 450 x 450 metres and a height of 66 metres.

However, a closer examination of the site reveals a different size.

The complex consists of several buildings built on top of each other, dating from the 3rd century BC to the 9th century AD.

The base of the pyramid itself is “only” 295 x 270 metres, giving a much smaller volume than the one we mentioned above.

Despite this, the Cholulu pyramid is still the third largest pyramid ever built.

Pyramid of Khafre (2.21 million cubic meters)

The Pyramid of Khafre is the second largest pyramid at Giza, after the Great Pyramid built by Khafre's father Khufu.

It looks a little bigger but is built higher.

The base of the pyramid is 215.5 metres long and its original height was 143.5 metres.

But now it is 12 metres shorter.

The greatest feature of the Pyramid of Khafre is the upper layer of smooth stones which are the only remaining casing stones on the Pyramid of Giza.

Pyramid of Khufu (2.58 million cubic meters)

The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the oldest of the pyramids and the oldest remnant of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

More than two million blocks of stone were used to build the pyramid, over a 20-year period ending around 2560 BC.

The base of the pyramid is 230 metres long and its height is 139 metres.

So in the end, after reviewing all the great pyramids, the Great Pyramid of Khufu remains the largest pyramid ever built.
