Numanissa Archaeological Site, Syria - Spain

Eight kilometres (5 miles) from the city of Soria, you will find the archaeological site of Numanisa.

Where there were once three ancient cities – one prehistoric, one Celtiberian and one Celtiberian-Roman.

The site remained hidden until the 19th century, but it was founded about 2,000 years before it belonged to the Romans in 133 BC.

Castle of Gormaz, Soria - Spain

Located about an hour's drive southwest of the city of Soria, this castle dates back to the 10th century.

Said to be the tallest castle in Europe, its fortress-like walls stretch along the ridge and are protected by 28 towers.

Visitors can also head inside the castle to see it, as well as walk around its perimeter.

The Monastery of San Juan de Duero is one of the finest examples of medieval Christian architecture, as well as Romanesque architecture in the area.

Located in a small town, this cathedral is one of the most famous and magnificent cathedrals in the province.

Lobos Canyon River Nature Preserve

The Lobos River cuts its way between the provinces of Soria and Burgos, and part of it has become a designated nature reserve.

It is dotted with limestone canyons, towering rock faces and dense forests.

The reserve is famous for its birds of prey, where you can spot Egyptian vultures, griffon vultures, eagle owls and even golden eagles.
