8. Al-Khald National Park

Mole National Park covers a vast savannah filled with African elephants, buffalo, baboons, warthogs and Kobe antelopes.

You will find nearly 100 species of mammals and at least 300 species of birds here.

The park allows walking and driving safaris and you can rent a parked car if you don't have your own.

Going between December and April is the best time to see elephants, although you are guaranteed to see plenty of the mammals year round.

Perhaps the coolest beach in Ghana is Busua.

It is a beach resort and fishing village in the Western Region of Ghana, a magnet for backpackers and volunteers who like to come and relax on the beach for a few days at a time.

Approximately 30km from Takoradi town and located directly between Dixcove and Potter, Busua village has great trekking potential, making it an ideal base camp.

Many beaches in Ghana have strong surf, making swimming a bit risky, but Busua's waters are as comfortable as its atmosphere.

Since it is primarily a tourist city, you will find great hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, and skateboard and bike rentals.

The first European slave trading post in Africa was Elmina Castle.

Built by the Portuguese in the 15th century, it is located in what is now Ghana.

Cape Coast is a former European colonial capital and one of the most culturally significant sites in all of Africa.

Originally called Cabo Corso by the Portuguese, the city was the largest slave trading centre in West Africa.

It was here that slaves were brought, locked deep in the cities' intimidating fortresses, and then loaded onto ships bound for the New World.

But today Cape Coast is primarily a fishing town with an artsy feel.

To visit Kakum National Park you have to take a great day trip from Cape Coast.

There you will find 40 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, and more than 600 species of butterflies.

The most popular part of the park is the canopy walkway.

It is a series of viewing platforms connected by safe, bouncy suspension bridges approximately 30 metres above the park floor.
