Darjeeling - India

Qutb Minar is the second tallest brick minaret in the world.
This 80-metre (270-foot) tall minaret is made of marble and red sandstone and decorated with verses from the Holy Quran.
Construction took four years, starting in 1193, and a circular staircase of 379 steps leads to the top.

Mysore Palace
Visitors to Mysore Palace have a wonderful experience at India's second most popular tourist attraction.
The seven palaces that make up the Mysore Palace complex are incredibly stunning.
The Wodeyars ruled Mysore from 1399 to 1950.
Their original palace was built in 1399, and the current palace was completed in 1912.
This new palace is a mixture of Islamic, Hindu, Gothic and Raibot architectural styles.
It rises three stories high, has pink marble domes and an ivory tower.
The palace also hosts the annual Dshara Arts and Culture Festival.

Mehrangarh Fort
Mehrangarh is the most magnificent fort and one of the largest in India, situated on a hilltop overlooking Jodhpur.
Built in the mid-15th century as a defensive mechanism, visitors can still see the marks of cannonballs on one of the seven entrance gates.
Once inside the walls, visitors will find beautiful and highly decorated palaces.
The Al Hosn Museum also contains an excellent collection of panels, musical instruments and royal costumes.

Meenakshi Amman Temple is an impressive Hindu temple dating back to the 6th century.
Although most of the current structure was built a thousand years later.
Located on the Vaigai River, it is perhaps the most important temple in Madurai, a 2,500-year-old city.
The temple has intricate carvings inside and out; it also has 14 towers, each dedicated to a person.
About 33,000 sculptures as well as dazzling paintings can also be found in the temple complex.

Ajanta Caves
The Ajanta Caves are rock-cut cave ruins dating back to the 2nd century BC.
The magnificent Ajanta Caves were neglected and forgotten around 650 AD until 1819, when they were found by a British hunting party.
The isolation of these caves has contributed to their preservation over the years in which they were forgotten, and some important lochs remain in them to this day.
These well-preserved murals depict everything from battlefields to sailing ships, city streets, animal-filled forests to snow-capped mountains.

The Lake Palace on Lake Pichola in Udaipur was built as a royal summer palace in the 18th century.
Today it is a luxury five-star hotel, operating under the name “Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces”.
This hotel is accessible via a boat that transports guests to the hotel from a jetty on the eastern bank of Lake Pichola.
The hotel gained further fame in 1983 when it appeared in the James Bond film Octopussy.

Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal in Agra is a massive white marble mausoleum, built between 1632 and 1653 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife.
Called the “teardrop on the cheek of eternity,” it is one of the masterpieces of Mughal architecture, and one of India’s greatest tourist attractions.
Besides the white marble-domed mausoleum, the Taj Mahal has many other beautiful buildings, including reflecting pools, and extensive ornamental gardens with flowering trees and shrubs.
