In spring, Kawachi Fuji Gardens opens its doors to visitors from all over the world.

Where the plant species form colorful paths in amazing shapes. The best time of year to visit is from late April to mid-May.

It is home to 150 stunning wisteria flowering plants covering 20 different species.

Top Attractions at Kawachi Gardens

The main attraction of the garden is the Wisteria Tunnel which allows visitors to walk through a magical tunnel bursting with colour.

Located about 6 hours (according to Google Maps) from Tokyo, the best time to visit is from late April to mid-May, with the peak usually occurring at the end of April.

This park is a private park so there is an entrance fee.

Another highlight of the park is two tunnels, about 100 metres long, made of wisteria trees of different types and colours.

They range from white to dark purple.

Furthermore, there is a group of large wisteria trees that together form a huge surface of hanging flowers.

The viewpoint at the top of the hill garden allows beautiful views of the sea of wisteria flowers and the surrounding valley also known for its bamboo groves.

Kauchi Gardens has been very popular in recent years, and now attracts large numbers of local and international visitors during the wisteria season.

Which often falls on the busy Golden Week. As a result, the park can get very crowded and take a long time to get to.

How to get to Kawachi Gardens

Getting to Kauchi Gardens is not straightforward, by public transport.

It is best accessed from the station, at 280 yen one way from Kokura Station.

A rental car can make the visit easier.

But note that traffic congestion can occur on weekends and public holidays during peak flower season which often falls on the busy Golden Week.

 

  • Getting to Kawachi Gardens by Bus

During peak season, the bus runs approximately twice an hour between Yahata Station and Kauchi Gardens.

On busy days, the bus may be affected by traffic congestion.

Nishitetsu Bus No. 56 runs about once an hour from Yahata Station, the final stop along the line (20 minutes, 260 yen one way).

However, from the bus station you still have a 45-55 minute walk to the park.

Since the bus stop is located away from the park, buses are less likely to be affected by traffic congestion on busy days.
