About The Middle East
The Middle East is a transcontinental region centered on Western Asia and Egypt in North Africa. The adjective is Middle East and the derived noun is Middle East. The term came into wider use as an alternative to the Near East beginning in the early 20th century. Arabs, Egyptians, Turks, Persians, Kurds, and Azeris constitute the largest ethnic groups in the region by population. Minorities in the Middle East include Jews, Assyrians and other Arameans, Baluchis, Berbers, Coptic Christians, Druze, Lurs, Mandaeans, Samaritans, Shabaks, Tats, and Zazas. There is also a Roma community in the Middle East. European ethnic groups that make up the diaspora in the region include Albanians, Bosnians, Circassians, Crimean Tatars, Franco-Levantine, and Italo-Levantine. Other immigrant populations include Bengalis and other Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, Indonesians, Pakistanis, and sub-Saharan Africans. The history of the Middle East dates back to antiquity, with the region's importance being recognized for thousands of years.
